You can do a clean bulk & a dirty bulk. Regardless of which way you choose to bulk, clean, or dirty they both require you to create a calorie surplus. When you put yourself into a calories surplus not only can you build muscle, but you can also gain fat. With a clean bulk your primary aim is to build muscle, but you want to do it in a way that minimizes the amount of body fat you gain in the process. So you'll typically be eating lean sources of protein like chicken breast & white fish, complex carbohydrates like brown rice & yams, & good sources of fats like avocados. Also your overall calorie surplus won't be too crazy high because that will also increase the chances of you putting on more fat. With a dirty bulk you pretty much don't care how much fat you gain in the process of bulking. Your main mission is to just build muscle. The fat you'll take care of after bulking up. Dirty bulks are very effective at building muscle, in fact they're probably one of the most effective things you can do to build muscle faster, but when you eat this way you can become much fatter throughout the process, which may not be a viable option if your skinny fat & you don't feel comfortable gaining any more body fat. I very rarely recommend that you do a dirty bulk at all, the only people that I recommend doing a dirty bulk to are people that are extreme hard gainers. These guys need to do everything they can to eat more & gain weight. A clean bulk is usually the best way to go & by cycling between enough proper clean bulks & enough cutting phases back & forth you should be able to get as lean & muscular as you want. So which do you do first. Well since you're looking to do both we should start with your body fat percentage to see which one you need more. The reason we focus on body fat is because the higher your body fat percentage is when you start the higher your body fat percentage will be when your done. The first hormone I want to discuss is Thyroid - which I’m sure you’re familiar with. The higher your thyroid levels, the faster your metabolism. The better your food gets utilized. In fact, your thyroid gland also indirectly affects other hormones - sex hormones, stress, blood sugar, growth hormone and other peptides. So this is a very important hormone that you want at OPTIMAL levels - not just “normal” levels. As you age and men’s testosterone drops and women start to go through menopause, their thyroid levels drop. Now, you may still be the “normal” range when you do a blood test, but it won’t be in the upper, optimal “fat-burning” range. So to improve your thyroid levels, you need to Always have some carbohydrates in your diet. NO and LOW carb diets lower your thyroid. Stay away from soy, as that lowers your thyroid production. Make sure you have some protein with all your meals, because that helps increase thyroid. Eat some coconut oil daily, that helps as well. Take herbs such as Guggulsterones, L-Tyrosine, Theobromine and iodine to boost your thyroid levels naturally. Next, you want to increase Leptin levels, which helps reduce your appetite and then lower Ghrelin, which increases your appetite. These are known as “hunger hormones”. To improve these hormones, you want to Make sure you get enough sleep When dieting, decrease your calories slowly and gradually. Too much, too soon causes an imbalance in these hormones and this causes a dramatic increase in your appetite. Also, a very potent ingredient called the African Mango Extract (Irvingia Gabonensis) has been clinically shown to dramatically increase Leptin levels. The end result of this human clinical study was a weight loss of over 20 lbs on average in 10 weeks.1 Now, there are other hormones you want to improve for fat burning - such as improving insulin sensitivity, lower cortisol levels, decreasing estrogen and so forth - which I’ve already spoken about in the 3 previous videos. When you stop eating (start fasting) all the energy that has been used to gain energy from food is now being used for flushing toxins out of the system and boost the natural healing mechanism of the body. How to Water Fast Water fasting is simple, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. During a water fast, you can’t consume anything but water. If you’ve never done a water fast before, you might want to prepare your body by gradually decreasing your calorie consumption for a few days leading up to your fast. If you do engage in a water fast, try to resist the urge to eat a big meal. After restricting yourself from calories for an extended period of time, consuming large amounts of food can cause digestive discomfort or nausea. At worst (though it’s unlikely), you are at risk for refeeding syndrome, a potentially fatal condition that involves rapid metabolic changes, usually in people who are extremely malnourished. Instead, start by adding caloric beverages like milk or juice, and work your way up using snacks and small meals. By the third day post-fast, you should be able to eat normally again. How much water should I drink? The first thing to remember is that 60 – 70% of our body is WATER. So, it’s crucial that you drink enough quantity of water, which should not be less than 8 – 10 glasses daily, to support the cleansing process. Drinking not enough water is during water fasting is the problem we observe the most. The body gets dehydrated, as a result, it becomes more acidic, and the cells don’t get hydrated enough to keep the blood alkalized. Who can benefit from water fasting? Everyone can benefit from water fasting. Dehydration Even though you drink water during a water fast, you can be at risk for dehydration. For most people, at least 20 percent of daily water consumption comes from the foods you eat. If you don’t increase your water intake during the fast, you will actually end up consuming much less water than usual. Hypotension Hypotension is extremely low blood pressure—the opposite of hypertension, or high blood pressure. It can cause dizziness and lightheadedness. Hyponatremia You shouldn’t exercise during a water fast because you will lose salt through perspiration and won’t be able to replace it by eating food or drinking sports beverages. Use electrolytes every day in your water. Dizziness, Fatigue, and Trouble Focusing Dizziness, fatigue, and brain fog are all symptoms of extreme calorie restriction. When you don’t consume the number of calories your body needs, your body will struggle to perform at an optimal level. It may become difficult to focus at work or school during a water fast. Fasting can also cause mild-to-severe headaches. Binge Eating Fasting—and dieting or restricting calories in general—often leads to binge eating. Fasting can also lead to obsessive or intrusive thoughts about food, which may cause you to binge eat when your water fast is over.
